In fall 2008, the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) announced its first Kitchen/Bath Industry show (K/BIS®) Student T-Shirt Design Competition. Students from NKBA accredited and supported schools were asked to design t-shirts for K/BIS that capture the theme of the kitchen or bath as the "Heart of the Home." Many great designs were received.

More than 2,325 members determined this year's winning entry by casting their vote online. Grand prize winner Briana Bjerke, an Interior Design student at Alexandria Technical College, received the most votes for her whimsical design. Briana portrayed a modern twist to a homespun theme, using sleek bath fixtures in the center of a heart to depict the theme of this year's show. In keeping with the bath motif, Briana incorporated soap bubbles floating for the date and location. Briana, of Fosston, has demonstrated that she has versatile design skills, also winning the Lamps Plus Lighting Challenge for students in 2008.
