Interior Design Student Awarded $4,000 for Winning Design

Matthew Lawrence, an Interior Design student at Alexandria Technical College, was awarded $4,000 for 2nd place in the 2009 National Kitchen and Bath Association and General Electric Charette challenge. Matt's design inspiration came by planning for the future by using the space so the client's could have easy access to their GE appliances. He planned the design so the clients can make their company feel comfortable and use the space 10 years down the road.

More than 450 students from 28 colleges participated in challenge, which tests students' ability to think and apply their knowledge of kitchen design. The students’ challenge was to produce a floor plan with specifications, a design statement, and one additional drawing a perspective or elevation, and all within three hours.
